Job Summary
The CT/XR Technologist provides diagnostic imaging services through the safe and effective application of radiographic and computed tomography techniques. This role performs radiography and CT procedures as ordered by licensed practitioners, ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis and treatment. The technologist exercises professional judgment, delivers appropriate patient care, and adheres to standards of medical ethics while maintaining patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality throughout all procedures.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
Perform diagnostic radiography procedures according to established standards.
Review and confirm patient clinical history relevant to the procedure and ensure documentation is available for use by a licensed practitioner.
Prepare patients for imaging procedures, providing clear instructions to minimize anxiety and ensure optimal results.
Select and operate radiographic and CT equipment safely and effectively.
Position patients and equipment to accurately demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while prioritizing comfort and capability.
Utilize appropriate immobilization techniques when necessary.
Determine and apply proper exposure factors to minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff.
Evaluate images for quality, accuracy, and proper identification.
Verify informed consent and assist licensed practitioners with interventional procedures as applicable.
Practice aseptic technique when required.
Provide physical and emotional support to patients during procedures.
When permitted by statute or policy, prepare and/or administer contrast media under direction of a licensed practitioner.
Initiate basic life support when needed.
Assist licensed practitioners with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiographic procedures.
Computed Tomography (CT) Duties
Operate CT equipment and related accessories.
Select and customize imaging programs for specific protocols.
Perform venipuncture when required.
Assess CT images for technical quality and adjust display parameters as needed.
Produce and maintain accurate digital and hard-copy records with proper identification.
Maintain archival storage of digital imaging data.
Follow Universal Precautions consistently.
Provide patient education related to CT and radiographic procedures.
General & Departmental Responsibilities
Maintain accurate records while adhering to confidentiality policies.
Oversee assigned work areas and report equipment malfunctions promptly.
Provide input regarding equipment and supply needs.
Assist in training students or other healthcare staff.
Participate in quality assessment and improvement initiatives; may manage area-specific quality control tasks.
Monitor and manage inventory or supply orders as assigned.
Demonstrate effective patient relations and communication skills.
Complete required continuing education to maintain licensure and certification.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography and CT, or equivalent required by applicable state regulation.
Current license as a CT Technologist.
Current BLS certification.
Bilingual abilities, especially EnglishSpanish, preferred.
Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations preferred.
