The Department of Radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, seeks candidates to serve as Vice Chair of Research. Candidates should have an MD and/or PhD with a successful and sustained track record of high-impact scholarship, effective mentoring outcomes, research innovation, and independent funding. We seek an outstanding individual who will oversee our research programs, build our research community, and who will effectively represent the interests of radiology research at the Institutional level. A priority for this individual is to foster internal and external research collaborations and to improve our national research rankings by increasing and sustaining extramural support and enhancing the Department’s research and academic profile.

The Vice Chair of Research leads the Department’s research operations and associated teams, projects, initiatives and administrative processes to increase the department’s research portfolio and ensure strategic initiatives are being met, while maintaining the highest levels of research quality and compliance. The incumbent oversees a staff of direct and indirect reports, including PhD scientists, as well as laboratories and research groups. As a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, BIDMC and the Department of Radiology provide a clinically advanced and supportive academic environment for residents, fellows, and faculty.  The department will be engaged in the newly announced and exciting clinical collaboration between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BIDMC, and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) to establish New England’s only free-standing adult inpatient cancer hospital. The collaboration will bring together world-class clinicians to deliver transformational, precision medicine in an environment solely dedicated to defying cancer.

The collaboration will provide unparalleled opportunities for radiology and other physician specialties to be part of DFCI's internationally recognized cancer team.

We are especially interested in candidates who have an established track record in and can foster expansion of our research portfolio in one or more of the following key areas:

  •        Imaging characterization of cancer systems (e.g. biomarker discovery and microenvironment mapping)

  •        Clinical translation

We seek applications from board-certified radiologists who are eligible for full licensure in the state of Massachusetts, who are clinically active in any subspecialized field of radiology, and who have a scholarly track record of funded innovation in the radiological sciences.  Candidates eligible for appointment at the academic rank of Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School is preferred, however candidates who are eligible for appointment at the Assistant Professor level will also be considered; appointment will be commensurate with experience and published evidence of innovation and scholarly productivity.
