Locally managed by founder Lindsay Vaughn, DVM, DACVECC, AVES is a progressive, multi-specialty hospital built around collaboration, clinical excellence, and continuous learning. Our Emergency team works closely with specialists across multiple disciplines, giving you access to the expertise and resources needed to manage challenging and complex cases.
Our specialty services include Internal Medicine, Interventional Radiology, Surgery, Neurology, Critical Care, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Anesthesiology, and Diagnostic Imaging, with advanced capabilities including ultrasound, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, and digital radiography.
AVES also offers high-flow oxygen therapy and advanced respiratory support, along with access to cardiology services through CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets.
AVES is home to the only board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist in Austin, providing an exceptional resource for complex anesthesia cases, advanced pain management, and collaboration across our Emergency and specialty services.

ER ABVP Guided Program-The ER ABVP Guided program offers a path that meets you where you are, allowing you to reach your emergency career goals without the need for an internship. Ideal for any emergency practitioners within the Ethos network looking to deepen their expertise in emergency practice. This path lets you stay in your current Ethos network hospital, enjoying your full wages and benefits while practicing at an Ethos hospital and pursuing board certification.
In your day-to-day, you will:
- Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
- Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
- Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
- Collaborate closely with specialists across Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Anesthesiology, Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, and other disciplines.
- Utilize advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities to provide exceptional patient care.
- Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Texas veterinary licensure.
- Completion of a rotating internship or experience practicing emergency medicine is preferred.
- Confidence managing emergency cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
- A collaborative mindset and desire to work closely with specialists and fellow emergency clinicians.
- A commitment to exceptional patient care and evidence-based medicine.
- A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing emergency veterinary medicine.
