About us
Crown Veterinary Services is a privately owned, non-corporate emergency practice in Lee's Summit, MO — a growing, family-friendly community with an active, supportive small business culture. We're preparing to open two additional locations soon, which means real career growth for the team we're building now — and the stability of a business owned by people who work in it.
We're built on strong medicine, strong mentorship, and genuinely liking the people we work with. That starts with our team:
- Highly trained RVTs and support staff who run a tight, capable floor
- An experienced management team — practice manager plus assistant managers on every shift, 24 hours a day
- Lead and head CSRs and lead technicians so escalations get handled by people who know their stuff
- An on-site chaplain providing grief support, client communication assistance, and emotional support for both clients and staff during euthanasia visits and other hard conversations
- A fully functioning general practice on-site, Monday–Saturday, which means clean handoffs and real continuity of care for the patients you stabilize overnight
Our diagnostics and treatment capabilities include:
- CT imaging on-site — same-shift advanced imaging, no transfers for a scan
- Digital radiography and dental radiography
- Ultrasound available on-site with in-house training and mentorship — we'll build your AFAST/TFAST and full abdominal scanning skills, whether you're starting from scratch or leveling up
- All imaging — CT, ultrasound, and radiographs — read by boarded radiologists. You capture the images and start your workup; the definitive read comes back from a specialist.
- On-site blood and plasma products available for transfusions
- State-of-the-art ICU kennels with oxygen therapy and incubation capability
- In-house lab (CBC, chem, blood gas, lactate, coags, UA)
- Fully equipped surgical suite
- Multi-parameter monitoring
The role
We're hiring an emergency veterinarian for either our overnight or swing shift rotation. You'll triage and stabilize incoming emergencies, run your own caseload through the shift, perform emergency surgery, and hand off cleanly — either to the next ER team or to our on-site GP crew in the morning. Whether you're an experienced ER doc or a GP looking to transition into emergency work with real mentorship, we'd love to talk.
What you'll do
- Triage, stabilize, and manage a full emergency caseload independently.
- Perform emergency surgical procedures (GDV, splenectomy, C-section, foreign body, wound repair, cystotomy).
- Acquire and interpret in-house imaging (CT, ultrasound, radiographs), with all studies read by boarded radiologists for definitive interpretation.
- Manage critical inpatients in our ICU through your shift and communicate handoffs cleanly.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients during high-stress situations — with our on-site chaplain available to support the hardest conversations.
- Maintain accurate medical records (we use ezyVet, and yes — we use Scribenote so charting doesn't eat your break).
- Collaborate closely with your RVT team, support staff, and the on-site GP doctors for continuity of care.
What we're looking for
- DVM (or equivalent) from an accredited program.
- Active Missouri veterinary license or ability to obtain one before start date.
- DEA license or eligibility.
- Comfort with — or genuine interest in learning — emergency medicine, triage, and stabilization.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to stay calm and collected under pressure.
- GP-to-ER transitions welcome — structured mentorship provided.
What we offer
- $180,000–$220,000 base salary + production, based on experience
- 3x 12-hour shifts per week + rotating 4th day — real time off, not on paper
- Flexible scheduling — we work with you, not around you
- Privately owned and growing — two new locations opening soon, with real advancement opportunities for the team we build now
- Stability of a non-corporate business owned by people who work in it
- Highly trained RVTs and experienced management on every shift, 24/7 — you're never running the floor alone
- On-site chaplain — grief support and emotional care for both clients and staff during euthanasia and hard conversations. Because taking care of our team matters as much as taking care of our patients.
- On-site GP for continuity of care — no more wondering what happened to your overnight stabilization
- 401(k) with employer match
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- On-site CT, ultrasound, and radiography, with all studies read by boarded radiologists — you get the specialist interpretation without the specialist wait
- Ultrasound training and mentorship, ICU with oxygen therapy and incubation, in-house blood and plasma — practice the medicine you trained for
- Paid time off and sick leave
- Continuing education allowance + paid CE days
- Professional dues covered (AVMA, MVMA, DEA, license)
- Pet care discounts for your own crew
- Growing, supportive Lee's Summit community — a great place to plant roots
