The Switzer Veterinary Clinic is one of two AAHA-accredited mixed-animal practices in the state of Michigan and was selected as one of America’s Best Animal Hospitals 2026 by Newsweek magazine. We’re built around the simple idea that veterinary medicine is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals, in the lives of the people who love them and in the communities we serve. That mission shapes everything from how we practice medicine to how we treat each other.
Our six doctor, seven licensed veterinary nurse team has a wide range of clinical interests and a genuine investment in each other’s success. We practice high quality medicine with:
- Laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures including laparoscopic spays (L.OVE).
- Orthopedic procedures including fracture repair and TTA’s for cruciate tears.
- Full DR and dental radiography, new small and large animal ultrasound, full in-house IDEXX lab and computerized records with AI transcription.
- A predominately small animal caseload with one to two half days per week dedicated to horses and farm animals.
- Thunder Bay Veterinary Urgent Care shares our facility and offers flexible urgent care shifts on an as-wanted basis.

If you’re an experienced veterinarian, you’ll find colleagues who want to learn from you as much as you’ll learn from them. Compensation and Schedule
We offer a competitive compensation package including a generous signing bonus, production incentives, CE allowance, health insurance, SIMPLE IRA and paid professional dues. Each doctor works three to four days weekly with two five-day blocks of time off per month.
Requirements
DVM or VMD, licensed or eligible to practice in Michigan. Small animal only or mixed animal practitioners will be considered. Strong communication and a collaborative mindset are essential.
